Speaking to your children
Overview | Young Children | Teens/Young Adults

Here you'll find suggestions and guidelines for speaking to your children about cancer. We understand from personal experience that deciding what to tell your children can be very difficult, especially where small children are concerned. Please understand that, though we’ve done our best to put together suggestions to ease the communication process, it is ultimately up to the parent to determine what makes the most sense for his or her family. There is no right or wrong way to approach this very sensitive issue. A child's capacity to understand a cancer diagnosis varies at different stages of childhood development. Our tips and suggestions in this section are divided into two age ranges. For teens and young adults visiting our site, please visit our Information for Teens section.
